From Wrecked to Resurrected – Sanders Street Rods Saved Shane Petit’s 1977 Ford F250
We’ve all heard stories about an unlucky person buying an expensive car, driving it off the dealership lot, and getting wrecked at a stoplight down the street. That can happen with a newly repaired truck, too.

Shane Petit knows that feeling. On the first drive in his newly painted ’77 Ford F250 crew cab truck, he was T-boned at an intersection. While Shane and his passengers were unhurt, the truck was totaled. Once the insurance situation was resolved, he began rebuilding the truck at his construction business, aided by some employees with fabrication skills.

When construction work increased and there was less time to spend on the truck, Josh Sanders at Sanders Street Rods was called on to finish the rebuild work. Josh and his team pulled the cab, straightened it, repaired rust, replaced doors, and performed the paint work.

Fixing the cab was complicated because of the way the crew cabs were produced. Josh says Ford made those cabs by taking a two-door shell, cutting it, and inserting pieces to create the larger cab. Back doors were created by cutting and welding existing pieces. The Sanders Street Rods team ably handled all the required metal work and applied the PPG Ford Moss Green and white paint. Bumpers and other trim pieces were replated or restored. Josh says replacing some of the destroyed trim was a challenge, so they ended up machining small B-post trim pieces that were then chrome plated.
